Traditionally drunk in a specially carved gourd, called the mate, and drunk through a perforated metal straw known as the bombilla, the plant has a completely unique profile and, along with a host of vitamins, contains caffeine, theobromine and theophylline (feel-good compounds found in coffee, chocolate and brewed tea).
Drink among famous Argentinians and Uruguayans such as Che Guevara, Maradona, Messi, Suárez and the Pope, who are all well-known mate drinkers. Today, every Uruguayan drinks over nine kilograms of yerba mate every year - that’s five times the amount of tea your average Brit drinks!
Contains caffeine and theobromine, the feel good stimulants found in coffee and cacao, for as much natural lift as a cup of coffee.
Try it as an energising mixer for vodka!
Directions: Brew for 3 to 5 minutes, ideally in 80°C water
